The Painting stage consists of everything after we've received your quote approval and deposit, up to your final approval of the finished work.

Receiving/Ordering:

We can either order all models required for you, or you can ship models to us.

If we are ordering the models for you, they will be ordered once we receive your deposit, and will usually arrive at our studio within one week. There is no extra charge for this service - in fact, models that we purchase are billed to you at 15% off the MSRP. (Some foreign suppliers, such as ForgeWorld, are excluded from this discount, and may incur a small surcharge to cover international shipping rates).

If you are shipping us models, then we will wait to receive your models. You can also have models drop-shipped to us directly from a preferred retailer.

Either way, once your models have arrived at the studio, we will send you an e-mail to inform you of their arrival, along with a rough inventory of their contents.

Assembly/Cleaning

Obviously, if we’re buying the models for you, we will do the assembly ourselves. We can also assemble them if you ship them to us in an unassembled state. Cost of assembly varies depending on the size/complexity of the model, but will range from $1 to $10 per model.

If you assemble the models yourself, be sure that you are satisfied with how they look, flash/mold lines removed, and gaps filled. We’ll be happy to do minor touchups for no charge, but if more than 10 models need to be cleaned up, we will apply a minor ($0.25-$1.00) charge. This also applies if significant numbers (10+) of models arrive broken.

We ask for a similar consideration from you – despite the best packaging, damage sometimes occurs during shipping.

Painting

BK Army Painting Studios aims for a distinct, eye-catching, yet "realistic" style of painting that will look good on the tabletop when viewed at a normal playing distance (2-4 feet away from the viewer). For examples of our style, please view our gallery.

All models are basecoated with a primer before painting.

Figures will have one or two "primary" colors, each with at least three levels of shading and highlighting. Details will be picked out in different colors, and bases will be finished and completed. (See the Basing Guide for details).

All of our work is rated in three "Tiers", which describe the level of detail put into the models and the number of primary colors used per model.

  • Tier 1: These models will have a single primary color that dominates the model (roughly 90%), with details picked out in one or two contrasting colors. The pictures below show some examples of Tier 1 models.

  • Tier 2: These models will have two primary colors that are equally dominant, with details picked out in one or two different colors. The pictures below show some examples of Tier 2 models.

  • Tier 3: These models are true "centerpiece" figures. They will generally (but not always) have two primary colors, and details will call on as many colors as required. Details will be picked out fully (i.e. pupils for eyes, gems, etc). The pictures below show some examples of Tier 3 models.

Customer Review/Approval

Once painting is complete on all models in a project, we will take 2-4 pictures of each complete unit/model, and send them to you for review. After reviewing the pictures of your new army, you will e-mail us back, either with an approval of the project, or a request for alterations/touch-ups. We're more than happy to make alterations so that you are happy with your new army.

Once you approve of the job, you will then Paypal us the balance of your payment, and we will ship your finished army to you!

If you don’t like the finished product, we will issue you a refund for your full payment, minus any paypal fees. We also do not reimburse shipping fees (if you shipped models to us).

If you shipped us models, we will either refund 75% of the retail cost, or replace the models (either new or in good second-hand condition) at our discretion; less the cost of shipping them back to you.

If your army is not paid for within thirty (30) days of project completion, 50% of the project’s cost (assembly and painting) will not be refunded. Models will be returned, replaced, or reimbursed as above.

For a large project ($200+) there might be a delay of refund while we find a buyer.
